Hey Guys! My friend has an AMD Athlon ii x2 265 processor and he wants to overclock it further than his current oc. His current oc is 3.9GHz and he wants to see if it can oc any further so he can get better performance in games. He is going to buy an i5-4670k, but that will be later this year, not at the moment. So until he buys this he wants to oc his current processor further. Does anyone know how far it will be able to oc without going unstable? Will he have to turn up his voltage to the cpu if he is going to go above 4GHz or not?

Best solution

a c 152 K Overclocking
a c 850 à CPUs
a c 330 À AMD

Normally the limit for that architecture is around 4GHz so he is about there with very little gains going further. Most likely he will have to up voltage trying further if he has not already done so.

Totally agree, I can't see any benefit to pushing that processor higher. You would be better replacing it with a second hand Athlon x4 for a cheap interim before the i5 and you will see a significant performance boost as most new games run much better on quad core processors.
