Hey guys, not sure if this is the right section or not. This is what im trying to accomplish. I run a headcam in my stock car series all the time and upload the videos to youtube. What would be awesome is if I could somehow run a live feed on my website to my head cam, so people can watch me race from my pov in realtime on my webpage. Is something like this possible? Whats involved in making this happen? What kind of data would this use?

Thanks,
Kevin

The amateur storm chaser guys do it all the time on chaser.tv Likely their site would answer to bandwidth and cell cost questions.

Generally all you need is a wireless web cam, a router/phone acting as a portable hotspot and some cam service software likely running on a PC. This would then feed to one of the many public streaming servers. Most steaming servers make their money by placing ads on the side of the screens. There are lots you would have to find one allows you kind of video. Many are very specialized like the chaser site or twitch for games. Of course there are a number that don't have a lot of rules and therefore have lots of amateur porn feeds.

So if I run my phone as a portable hotspot and connect the camera to it. Is there software for my phone to stream the video? Also if I use a wifi camera, what kind of range can I expect out of it? I will start looking for a streaming service to. Any suggestions?

You should get a range of 100ft in most cases. You wouldn't necessary have to put the hotspot in the car. Hard to say I know you can stream the camera that is built into the phone itself. I am very much a beginner when it comes to phone apps. I would think it would be more dependent on the camera since many of those only run with certain software packages. A WiFi camera is almost always some form of security camera and they may rig it to only work with their software. Normal web cams would require USB cables and once you do that you run into the driver problem...ie can you get a driver that will run on android.

I will bump this to the top for you, maybe someone who does more streaming knows. I can tell you all about WiFi and 3G/4G networks since I work in that area outside that I have to come here and ask questions too.

I would start simple and solve each issue. For example if you solve how to connect and stream the camera from a PC in a house with a fixed internet connection you could then build on that knowledge. You may best be served to try to see if there are any forums on your camera anyplace on the internet. There should be discussion on what streaming software works best.
