For typical resolutions(1080p,900p) it doesnt matter as far as picture quality goes.Though HDMI carries audio signal along with video if that matters to you.

Not sure what monitor you have but hdmi does not support 120hz monitor so you would need dual link dvi but as far as picture quality they should not make a difference visible to the eye.

+1 I would just add, I generally find if you are using a monitor with integrated speakers the sound quality is generally better via HDMI than onboard sound. Exceptions to this of course if you are using expensive hardware, but for most mainstream onboard sound cards at least. However, in my humble opinion DVI-D always seems to give me the best visual results.

It depends on the make of video card and monitor as to whether you will hit limitations in resolution and refresh rate with HDMI.
Dual link DVI and display port will both carry any supported resolution and refresh rate.
HDMI and display port also carry audio, helpful if your monitor has speakers.

If you are running at above 1920x1080 resolution at 60 Hz, ensure the cable you buy is rated for what you want use. Many dual link DVI and display port cables cannot actually carry the bandwidth supported by these connections.
