Hi. We have a cable modem here, and we're all running wifi. We have a xbox upstairs for netflix which never disconnects, we can run our phones on the wifi just fine, and my internet never disconnects.

However, when we're in the middle of a game, be it league or WoW or diablo or hearthstone or anything else for that matter, he gets disconnected and I continue playing our match unaffected. He usually still has full bars, is connected to the internet connection, but nothing works. Be it internet, or any game we're playing, and randomly after a while he can play again.

We have tried many things. We have reinstalled windows on his computer, installed avast, run a boot scan, reset his ip, changed adapter settings, and he even just bought a brand new linksys adapter in town. Every time we change something, it works for a while, especially getting a new adapter, which helped fix it for a few days, but now it's back to the same old problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Like I said, he stays connected, has full bars, but gets kicked out of games, and nothing requiring an internet connection works. We have been unable to find any viruses, reinstalled windows, got a new adapter, and no firewalls of any sort are being used.

Thanks.

It's unlikely if he's actually playing when it happens but the wireless adapter might close down because of power saving options in its configuration. Check the USB devices in Device Manager and see if the one that operates the dongle has a tick in "Allow the computer to turn this device off".
