Alright, so I'm new to this site but I really need some help on the matter. I've been running a rig for a while now, specifically for gaming which has been fine. It consisted of:

GTX 760
AMD FX-6100 3.3GHz
GA-78LMT-S2P
8GB RAM DDR3
600PSU
Windows 7

I recently decided to upgrade the motherboard, CPU and Ram, just so it's there since some of my games got a little choppy and the CPU performance was being capped. So I decided to purchase the following parts:

AMD FX-8350 8-Core 4GHz Black Edition
M5A99FX Pro R2.0
8GB Ram DDR3

So I've connected it all up into my computer, after a lengthy process I've re-installed windows and have the computer working. My issue is that whenever I boot a game, (sometimes even while doing simple tasks such as watching YouTube videos) the fan-speed on the CPU goes crazy, raising to 5000RPM, which is making a huge amount of noise. I'm using a software called 'Speed Fan 4.49' which is supposed to help with this, although it doesn't seem to make much difference.

While running games, such as Call of Duty: Ghosts, Watchdogs or Tropico 5, the readings I'm getting are as follows:

GPU: 80C
Temp1: 50C
Temp2: 34C
Temp3: -128C
Ambient: 0C
HD0: 45C

Whilst idling on the computer, my CPU fan speed hangs around 3000-3300RPM, but the second I boot a game, it goes crazy. I'm not sure if this is normal, or whether these temps. for my GPU and CPU are normal, but I've looking around and a few people have suggested purchasing a 'Hyper 212 Evo' cooling fan for the CPU, which I have done and am waiting for it to arrive.

My main issue with this is I'm not hugely experienced with computers. I know a little bit here and there but I don't want to push my computer to do anything that might cause it to overheat or damage itself. Ideally I'm just looking to know if these temps. are safe, and whether this fan-speed is normal. It would be great if someone might be able to tell me if this 'Hyper 212 Evo' cooling fan will help reduce noise, fan-speed and temps. also.

Also, I noticed with my new motherboard the bios is different, which is obvious, I know, but it doesn't directly boot Windows 7, I have to select the option from the boot options menu for it to begin. I'm just wondering if this is normal.

Sorry if this information is vague, I'm just trying to optimize computer performance with my new parts, which I'm assuming should be performing better than my previous hardware. It's worth noting that my new rig can run the games smoothly at Ultra, I'm just concerned of playing them for more than an hour at a time due to the noise, fan-speeds and temps.

Any help is greatly appreciated,
Jamie

Solution
Well the GPU temp seems a bit high @ 80C, but otherwise it looks good. You can lower this by adjusting your GPU fan speeds with something like MSI Afterburner and adding some case fans.

The Hyper 212 Evo should definitely help with your temps and noise; My stock cooler used to do 6500RPM under load.

Where in MSI Afterburner can I adjust these fan-speeds for the GPU? -Also, you mentioned your stock cooler 'used' to do 6500RPM, what did you upgrade to and what were the results after?

Also thanks for the prompt response. ;)

Edit: I also have three fans inside the case. Two mounted on the door, one at the back.

I'm assuming you're using the stock cooler. If its too loud, you might want to consider investing in the 212 evo. It would reduce the noise by a bit. The stock cooler is not the best thing to put onto the 8350. Are idle temps of the CPU itself 34C?

Idle temps are about 39C, I've ordered the Hyper 212 Evo as I've heard it helps a lot. How much exactly does it help with fan-speed, temp. and noise?

I upgraded to the Noctua NH-D14, arguably the king of CPU air coolers (not anymore though, the NH-D15 is the new king). I get about 40C under full load and I can't even hear the fans.

In MSI afterburner, go to settings and to the 'fan' tab. Check the box that says something about user defined fan control and then you should be able to make a fan curve of your own. Click OK to save the curve and click the 'user define' button next to the manual fan speed control in the main window of Afterburner to enable it.

Ok, got it, thank you. :)

Also, do you know how effective the Hyper 212 Evo is? -I mean, if the CPU and GPU performances are fine, it's mainly a noise issue that I'm left with. It's so loud it makes using headphones an absolute must. I personally don't have any experience with fans or new CPU's, just want to make sure everything is ok, ya' know? :p

Well, I'm not looking for it to be super-sonic quiet, just quiet enough so that it's not required to wear headphones. My old FX-6100 was absolutely fine, but this FX-8350 just constantly wants to scream at me. Hopefully this Evo will help, the noise is extremely annoying.

Thanks for the answers. :)

I hope so, but besides the noise, the CPU and GPU are ok? -I'm assuming the new cooler will also help with the temps. a little bit too?

I'm trying to fiddle with it, I don't really know how any of this works. I guess it's a trial and error type of thing?

EDIT: Managed to get the GPU down to 63C on full load, just tweaked the fan speeds a bit.

Oh, thanks! I'll definitely check that out too.

A bit off topic, but I mentioned in my OP that my bios doesn't launch windows automatically, do you know anything about that? -I have to select to boot windows through an option, which when I do so, brings me to the screen which asks me to boot windows normally, or to boot in various safe modes. It's not a huge problem, just wondering if it's normal and/or can be skipped to boot the OS automatically.

Also thank you for being so helpful. :)
