Have alien 17 with amd radeon r9 m290x. need to know how to use a 4 monitor configuration. #1 being the laptop screen and 3 27" screens. I need to run design software and all the other needed windows; like pdf readers, Excel and so on.....Have the machine, graphics card and monitors. I cant seem to find the How. what is the best configuration and what to buy? splitter? cabling? Alien 17 has one HDMI and one mini dvi outputs.. My configuration right now is the laptop screen and 2- 27" monitors one from the HDMI and one from the mini dvi would like to add a 3rd 27" monitor.

In short, I don't think you are going to be able to drive that many Monitors with that laptop. Normally you would or should be using multiple Cards in Crossfire for that sort of thing. You would definitely need to cut back on the resolution, and I don't think that would be enough. That is my opinion and maybe somebody else will have some more to add on this.

That's mini dp not mini dvi. You can get a mst hub or usb adapters. Careful with usb adapters though, some will have performance issues.
