Hey everybody, I know im posting a lot, but I just want the best system I can get before spending a lot of money, so the system I intend to buy in the next few days is

Mobo - http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/components/motherboa...

Cpu - http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/components/processor...

Gpu - http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/components/nvidiagef...

Psu - http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/components/p1-850s-n...

then im using some parts of my old pc

1tb sata III hdd
16gb DDR3 @ 1333mhz (until I absolutely have to upgrade)
CIT dominator case (has lots of fans, and doesn't look to shabby, so im gunna use that)

But my question is, will this future proof me for a good 5 years, I've got a motherboard with a second gpu slot, so if i ever need it I can buy another gtx 770, and the motherboard supports up to 3000mhz ram, so Im hoping that covers me for a good while, and the i7 cpu im hoping will cover me for a while, the reason im not going for the i5, is that when the time comes that games can utilize 8 threads, I'm already prepared, rather than buying a new cpu when the time comes.

I'm just wanting to play games on 1920x1080
On ultra
smoothly

Also, will the psu im getting handle to 770's stably, and a slight overclock on the cpu one day ... im not wanting to replace anything for the next 5 years, just add a new gpu if needed, maybe ram when the time comes, and possibly throw a solid state drive in, but i want the system itself to be pretty solid
Advice on this system please :)

that looks like a very nice build for the next 5 years. I´m just not sure if you want that gpu for the next 5 years, but then like you said you can always go SLI

You'd be more "future proof" if you go for the i5 and spend more money on a better gpu, like a gtx 780 or r9 290.

@pigsinspace72

But then what happens when the i7 can be truely utilized and im stuck here with an i5

Im not being a jackass, but I just want to get the best i can now, so i dont have to upgrade much in the future, wouldn't two 770's outdo 1 single 780?

The i7-4770k is more future-proof as it is.

1600mhz ram is needed for gaming and also for the 4770k to run all threads optimally.

I do not think any computer today will be good enough for the latest games in 5 years since we will most likely see a graphene powered game systems in like 3-4 years when the current ones are outdated.

I haven't heard of devils canyon, basically I have 650 british pounds (yes I'm british) and want to get the best psu/cpu/gpu/mobo I can for that price, I imagine the newer cpu's will be way more expensive, so If anyone can provide me with the best intel based build for that price, I would be greatly thankful

The answer is no .
Why ?
Soon DDR4 ram will be out , 5th gen intel cpu's will be out , and the 8** nvidia series will soon be out , so i'd wait till all these are out , buy them instead of what you've choosen and you should be fine

You wont ever need eight threads if you get a card like the r9 290 or gtx 780 with the i5 like pigs in space suggests. You would not need to run crossfire/sli either. The 6nm processing spread will generate enough cpu headroom for the video card as long as the whole system lasts and no matter how demanding a game is.

for a budget this is a great system

why would i not need 8 threads?

Because that is how system thread scaling works. The way the game is being scaled is the biggest factor in performance. Even if a game can use 8 threads it can run fine on 4 because of the 6nm processing spread.

You can get a xeon 1230v3, same price as i5 but with 8 threads

1. Non overclockable
2. No integrated graphics

That is true, but the OP is worried about having 8 threads and for games, a 780 with a i5 would be better than an i7 with a 770. And a 780 with the power of an i7 would be better.

I'm confused, there surely has to be something performance wise worse, for it to be that much cheaper, is it the same socket type?

Ive just looked, and the 780 is like £150 more, the difference between the i5 and i7 is about £70
