I have all my music and pictures on a 2TB Gdrive. I need to replace with more room. I wanted to also get a backup system in place as my time capsule is too small and dosen't work great with external hdd.

We use only macbooks:
fios router connect to Asus rt68u as access point.

Looking for suggestions on what to purchase and how to connect.

was thinking of wd my cloud 4tb for itunes and iphoto storage and wd my book 4tb as backup for libraries and also for laptop files....was thinking to connect my book via usb 3.0 to asus and my cloud thoough ethernet port on asus......

does this work or is there a better way?

Hello! For the 2.5" form factor, capacity is not quite up to snuff with the 3.5" form factor simply because of the fact that hard drives use physical components. It seems to me you need a lot of storage, so a ssd isn't really optimal. How about a home media server, or a service like google drive or dropbox to save some photos or songs or something. Your idea about the ethernet port is pretty good, but since you want to backup, consider doing a backup on an external site. Try buying something like a seagate goflex:http://www.amazon.com/dp/B003SU35M4/ref=twister_B003T9VQ98
