Hey guys, I recentley got an upgrade with my ISP and the speeds are capable of: 300mbps down and 20mbps up. So to put the speed to the test i plugged my laptop straight into the modem to see what speeds are coming through the internet cable to the modem and as i thought i get around 300mbps and 19mbps but when i plug my ethernet cable into the router the speeds are 98mbps down and 12mbps up. So I was wondering since i am a pc gamer I would love to have solid speeds so I was thinking can I just plug my ethernet cable into the modem and use the speeds out of my modem instead of plugging into my router? ( Just to let all you guys know my router is an ASUS Rtn-66U and my siblings can connect to that via wifi so thats why i was wondering if i can use the speeds for my self from the modem)

How many Ethernet ports does your modem have? Usually they have only one, so if you take it for your computer then there will be nowhere left to connect your router, and your siblings will have nothing to connect to. They'll be able to connect to a wireless router that has no Internet connection, because you will have taken it.

Just out of curiosity, are the Ethernet ports on your router limited to 100 Mbps? That would explain your limited download speeds when using the router.

EDIT: No, I just looked up your router and all Ethernet ports on it are 1 Gb ports, so that's not the issue.
