R9 270x toxic 2gb or R9 270x 4gb

Solution
I think that the new consoles are going to hold back games needing super high amounts of Vram, because everything is made to be played on all systems PS4/XBO they are still making games with the PS3/360 in mind. You don’t see many PC exclusive titles anymore. BF4 is one of the more demanding titles out right now and it uses about 2gb of Vram. Watch Dogs uses a lot of Vram, but it is currently very poorly optimized, I am sure that is going to drop with time/updates. People like to use Skyrim moded out as an example of needing high Vram, my laptop has a 2gb 770M, I run skyrim maxed out with 46 mods no problem.

I am sure nvidia/amd would not be releasing their new high end GPU’s with 3/4gb of Vram if it was not going to be enough for...

If you are playing @1080p 2gb will get the job done, even for more demanding games like Watch dogs. you may see a slight drop in fps but not too much. and with DX12 coming out GPU's will start utilizing Vram more efficiently.

But if he will keep this gpu for a long time, he sould get the 4 GB version as next gen games are going to use a lot of VRAM to run games. Watch Dogs is a great example.

Watchdogs doesn't count. The game is so unoptimized for both Nvidia and especially for AMD gpu. 4GB R9 270X is not worth it really unless the price difference is really close or there is a plan to crossfire them.

Yeah Watch Dogs is kind of a failure and I was about to mention that. The game needs a 4770K and a 290X to get only 60 FPS!!! It is crazy

If you plan on jumping up to a higher resolution 1440+ then yeah you are going to want more Vram, due to the higher pixel count. But IMHO 2-4gb of Vram will be plenty for games at 1080p for the next couple of years. If you disagree that’s cool this is just my opinion.

Well right now they are only thinking about making games for the new consoles. I can't even believe they thought about releasing Watch Dogs for the PC, i thought it was a console exclusive. But I know they aren't thinking about older consoles. I can get 30 FPS max on my Xbox 360 on watch dogs so I don't know how that is optimization. 3/4 GB cards are going to be enough for current and next gen games definitely. I'm worried about 1/2 GB cards.

The old consoles only ran at 30fps. the new ones clam to run 1080p at 60fps, but from what I have seen they are having a hard time getting games to run at that level to due hardware limitations, look at Titanfall on the OBX. You can build a PC for $500 that will outperform the new next gen consoles. =(

Yeah but that is where console gaming is heading. It is getting worse and worse everyday.

I will get my first console in college, all of my friends have them but I think it's a waste of money. I thought about getting a console but it quickly diminished after I thought about all the costs associated with it. Long live PC gaming!!
