Hi Friends,

I am currently running Windows XP and Windows 8 in my PC. I wanted to replace Windows 8 with Windows 7. Currently during boot it shows me two OSs(XP and Win 8) to choose from. I want to install Windows 7 in the drive where I had installed Windows 8.

Will there be a problem in booting into XP after I install Windows 7? Please help.

Any my PC config is as below. Will I be able to install Win 7 in my PC with this config?

2GHz AMD 64 bit Athlon processor
2GB RAM
160GB HDD

You know you can just customize windows 8 a little bit and it becomes a far superior version of windows 7? You don't have to use their stupid metro apps, you can just shove them to the side and learn to right click on the start button to get a power user's menu.

Also, you should not be running windows XP. It's insanely outdated and virtually guaranteed to be picking up nasty viruses.

That being said, yes you could just install windows 7 over windows 8, if you're fine with losing your data and moving to a slower, older operating system so that you don't have to be bothered to spend ten minutes customizing the faster one to not have to deal with metro apps.

The easy way around is to first install Windows 7 and then use a partition manager such as Easeus Partition Master to delete the Windows 8 partition. Then the deleted partition can be merged with the Win7 . As simple as that.

I agree with you.The problem I have is that my Windows 8 keeps restarting my PC after sometime(probably after 10 minutes) from the time of booting into it. I am not sure why its happening. But my Win XP works well without any problem. Since I am used to windows 7 in my work place, I am thinking to have Win 7 in my personal PC as well.

Any solution for this restarting problem?

Thanks in advance.

Is this guy for real? Windows 7 older and slower than 8. There is legitimately very few advantages to Windows 8 over Windows 7 if you aren't using a tablet. There is also one huge disadvantage, the missing start menu that's been with windows since 1995. You can't simply tweak Windows 8 into Windows 7 in ten minutes or they'd call it Windows 7 to begin with.

Yes, I am for real, and there are very large, very tangible benefits to windows 8:

1) It's lighter on system resources, which means that on an older computer like this one, it will be faster.
2) Windows 7 is absolutely hideous at handling bluetooth connections - windows 8 does it flawlessly.
3) It has a much, much faster and better designed file system transfer, good enough that you don't need a 3rd party program to use for it.
4) It has a much faster, more useful search - just hit the windows button and start typing.

Now, as for the rest of it...

1) You can install a start menu with a program like Start8 in all of about 30 seconds.
2) But why the hell do you need one anyways, unless you're just holding on to an old, outdated thing because you don't like change? In the world of technology, something that's been around for nearly two decades now is not something we should immortalize forever, it's something we should look at and see if it needs changing.

I don't know that the metro start menu is the right change, but I'd argue it's a step up. You can pin the programs you use most often to your taskbar, just like normal, and then the programs that you don't use as often get pinned to the start menu and are still very quick to access...

But even better than that, by hitting the windows key and typing, oh, four letters, you can have nearly any program open nearly instantly.

...so what's your problem? That you can't be bothered to teach your fingers to use the much-faster windows key, or that you simply don't like change in general?
