Hi,

I've been looking forward to OC my 3770K. I did some tests with stock settings and prime95 (large FFT's), and the hottest core is hitting around 72C (coldest was low 60's).

I'm using the water 2.0 extreme at the moment, with a HAF X and Gigabyte G1.Sniper 3. I used the Noctua NH-D14 (with 1 fan) before, and i think it was pretty much the same.

I know this temps are bad, so i checked the voltage with CPU-Z- and it shows 1.116V at load, which seemed fine.

I then decided to change the frequency, just to see how much it will affect the temps and what voltage will be assigned. I ran it at 4.3Ghz, and it came to mid 80's very quickly, with a voltage of 1.176V, which should be fine, as far as i know (i believe i have some room to lower the voltage).

So, it seems like the chip is good. Is it just the terrible IHS of the Ivy Bridge? Should i try delidding?

The case is under a big desk at the moment, so there isn't great ait circulation around it, and the ambient temp is 26-30C, unless the AC is on, then it's closer to 24C.

Looking forward to your advices.

Thanks. I'm still saving this option as a last resort. I have OCed before, but with older chips. I just can't understand why the temps are this high with stock settings and a good cooler, while the voltage is in check.
Also, As far as i know, 1.176V for 4.3Ghz is not bad for stock.

Well, i saw it hitting 71C (hottest core) after an hour of BF3. Lowest core was under 60 i think... I have 2 7950 in crossfire, and like i wrote- air circulation isn't that great, at least until i find a better place for the case, so it might be part of the reason for the high temps, but it still seems too high.
