I just built a new machine, AMD FX 9370 on an Asus crosshair V formula Z. I'm getting a cpu over temperature error during POST, but when I press F2 and go into the BIOS it says its at 41C. The pc powers off a few seconds later. I have a kraken x60 installed and cant figure out how it's over temp 30 seconds after pressing the power button.

41c does note seem too hot its when you get to around 65c-70c you need to start taking more attention as ive had computers running at 50c idle so i wouldnt worry about the temps if you really want to fuss about it you could install some new thermal paste but make sure it is a well known brand such as arctic silver as some pastes can actually turn to silicone-like substance.

have you tried taking the heatsink off and redoing the thermal paste? did you use to much thermal paste and get it over something?

the internal cpu temp could be hot and the temp your looking at is the temp sensor on the motherboard below the cpu. if the cpu is not making good contact with the heat sink it could be overheating internal faster then the external temp rise on the bottom of the cpu

I've redone the paste just to be sure, but it made no difference. My pc shuts itself off about 1-2 minutes after powering up.
