i just installed linux Ubuntu to my alienware x51 on Sda1 a few days ago and have been trying to get grub to find the file. Windows 7 was pre installed on the sdb (I Think) partition i have used boot-repair and it did nothing. I do have a windows 7 install disc (cracked) but the repair option can't find my OS as it only boots in legacy. i tried editing my 40_custom and i got error:invalid EFI path.
I also burned a system repair disc from my dads window 7 laptop (64 bit , Just like mine) even that only boots in legacy so it cant find the OS. I have also use Boot-Repair which doesn't work.

when you make a system repair disk it is made for that system you have made it on.you can not make a repair disk and wait for it to work.folow these steps
the restore option in in a hidden partition on the drive.if you installed ubuntu on it and used the whole disk its likely you will have erased it.use the link above and folow the steps on step 3.if it doesent work nothing you can do.
