I am rebuilding my computer by adding a Samsung 840EVO 1TB SSD as my boot drive.

The SSD shows up in the BIOS when I hit F8 for the Boot Menu along with my other drives, but it doesn't show up in the "Boot Priority" column, where I really need it, so it will always boot from the SSD.

For now, every time I boot the computer, I need to go into the BIOS and hit F8 to boot the SSD.

I've plugged the SSD's SATA cable into different SATA plugs, but that doesn't seem to make a difference.

I've referred to the instruction manual but haven't found any solution.

I am running BIOS 0603 dated 4-14-2014.

Any help would be appreciated.

I had the same problem with a Samsung 840EVO 120GB drive. I updated the Z97-AR BIOS to the latest version and then I could see the SSD in both the Boot Priority and Boot Menu and hit F10 to save and exit. I've since had issues with it disappearing again from the Boot Priority list on system restarts. When this happens I simply update the BIOS again and it works...at least for a while.

Yes, it SHOULD be there. I am having the same issue with my ASUS Z97 Deluxe MB. I updated to the latest BIOS (1304) yesterday and both my SSD drives were there and could be selected in the boot order under "hard drive bbs priorities", but today they are gone and the choice no longer says "hard drive bbs priorities" it says something like "unknown hard drive bbs priorities" and only lists my data RAID drive. Both my Samsung SSD drives are listed under "F8" and I can boot from them. Every time I start my PC I have to go to UEFI BIOS first and choose my boot drive. It's very frustrating and annoying.

I have a dual-boot arrangement:
- Samsung 850 Pro 512GB - Windows 8.1 Professional
- Samsung 840 Pro 512GB - Windows 7 Ultimate

ASUS needs to get on this one.

UPDATE:
I resolved this earlier today by shutting down my power supply and removing ALL power from the motherboard. I waited ten or fifteen minutes and then powered back up. I could then see and select both my SSD drives as they reappeared in the "hard drive bbs priorities" in the BIOS. This is clearly a BIOS/motherboard issue that needs to be addressed by ASUS. I hope it does not occur again. I will return and update at some point either way it goes.

I had the same problem as Newsbob with my Asus Pro Z97 motherboard. I tried a lot of answers in different forums...no luck! I then decided to try a simple procedure you do to reset many electronic devices.

I shut my computer down, then I shut the main power supply switch off at the back of my computer. I waited approx. 10 to 15 mins and turned the power supply switch back on. I then turned my computer on went into the bios and voila the SSD drive was there. I was then able to select the boot order I wanted.

I know seems like a simple solution but sometimes the answer to our problems are right in front of us. Hopes this helps you out, as it was very frustrating for me.

try to disable CSM, reboot, then re-enable CSM. That worked for me to get the Hard Drive BBS menu item back. Before I didnt even have that option

My SSD wouldn't show up in boot priority list after switching boot drives around (swapping my SSD boot drive with an HDD boot drive and back). The solution: "Disable CSM, reboot, then re-enable CSM" worked. I hope it doesn't just randomly drop the boot drive at some point and make me have to keep doing this even without swapping drives around.

My drive is currently a 320 Series Intel 120GB SSD on a Z-97 Pro with i7-4790k and updated bios 1304.

Let's hound ASUS about this while the board is still current so we can hopefully get a fix. I paid more for this board to avoid this kind of thing. Enthusiast boards shouldn't have issues just from swapping drives. That's unacceptable to me but I'm stuck with my purchase and like the board otherwise.

I am getting the same for the new ASUS x99 motherboard. I took RAID off the secondary drives, now it wont show main SSD in the boot priorities menu, but I can boot from F8, which I have to do when I restart the machine. I haven't tried the solution given in this thread (disconnect all power for 15mins) but honestly that is a bit of a hack, ASUS should get on to this!

I am having the same exact problem. I am going to try the power off and back on solution to see if that will TEMP fix it. This is a motherboard BIOS issus that ASUS should fix. I have the ASUS Z97 Pro series.

I have had this exact same issue several times in the last 6 months with a Z97 Pro. The first time, I took a bunch of stuff apart and it "magically" fixed itself. Turns out I had inadvertently done the above suggestion: turn off the power supply for several minutes. This just happened again, and turning the supply off worked perfectly.

Testing the same issue, I realized that if you disable all other drives in the boot priority list, it will auto-detect the SSD. Slightly better workaround than having to shut the power down.

This is with a Z97 Pro, i5-4690K, Sandisk Extreme 240GB SSD.

I'm having this exact same issue on a Z97 A with Intel SSD and it recurs on each start up. My SSD only appears in the advanced boot options and I can set it to #1 but it won't seem to save.

Really frustrating. Has anyone spoken to ASUS about this?

same for me..just bought an SSD loaded windows 7, would not show up in boot options even though it shows in bios screen..
However, advanced boot shows it as an option for the 2 primary boot drives..selected it but now when I boot up it juts hangs with a flashing blip top left. I went back in and selected boot from windows..this it does ok and offers me the option to select windows 7..then it loads up..

why is the boot up not recognises the ssd as having windows?

I'm having a similar issue with my ASUS M5A99X

My SSD is nowhere to be found. So far I've;
-swapped out cables
-disconnected my second HDD and optical drive
-connected it to all 6 ports and it isn't recognised in any of them.
-reset the cmos
-cut all power and left it for 20min

Nothing works with this wretched thing!

Strangely though if I try and boot from a disk the system somehow detects it. However if I go back into the bios it isn't there!

Any suggestions?

Hate to add a "me too", but...

I've just received an ASUS ROG G20BM from the wife as a birthday present. It's a compact case and getting the SSD in (as a secondary drive to the pre-installed HDD) was not easy. There is only one place it can go and one cable I can connect it with so swapping SATA channels isn't an option.

Machine runs Windows 10 (upgraded fr 8.1) and using Partition Manager I have copied my HDD contents onto the SSD as I wish to use this as the boot/system drive.

However, I can't see the SSD *anywhere* in the BIOS or boot menu. F8 only gives me the option of the HDD, as does the Boot menu in the BIOS. Boot Priority lists the HDD or "disabled".

I've tried disabling CSM and re-enabling - as mentioned elsewhere - and it makes no difference. I've also tried selecting "Disabled" as someone mentioned this would somehow force it to see the SSD. Nope.

Power has been off on the thing overnight as I was routing power cables around the desk so the unplug/wait/plug has been done.

BIOS is, as far as I'm aware, the latest revision (0403 x64, build date 11/05/2014) as I ran the BIOS update routine when I first booted the machine. Mind, that does seem about a year old (assuming US date format).

I'm unsure of the actual mobo model, though, due to it being a pre-built system.

Driving me nuts. I've gone from a system that uses an SSD for boot to a far more powerful machine that seems to be stuck using HDD - and which is therefore significantly slower!

Same issue. I have my SSD still with Win 7 and Win 10 (I thought it was that I haven't had time yet to do a clean install) I guess thats not the problem.. SSD always showed up until I put win 10 on. I think it has to do with MB and Win 10. Are other companies beside ASUS having same issues, or is this a Asus and win 10 problem!? Today I'm going to do a clean install with win 10 and update everything I can find to update will see it that takes care of problem.

I was having the exact same problem with my A78 mobo and I think you've fixed it! Only thing I would add is at the Boot menu, scroll all the way down to find the Hard Drive BBS priorities

Just thought I'd chime in, My Kingston HyperX 3K works fine in BIOS or CSM mode, but doesn't appear in UEFI mode, all my HDD's including my 6 year old Intel X25-M 40GB SSD appears in UEFI but not the Kingston drive.

I just fixed this.

The problem seems to be related (at least on the X79) to the fact that the faster cables are on a Marvell adapter. This adapter shows up as s0 and s1 in the BIOS, and does not appear in the BIOS as a selection when you operate in UEFI mode.
The solution was a two part one:

1. Get the disk to show up in the first place
2. Set that disk as the primary boot device.

For step 1, Open advanced mode in the BIOS and go into the CSM (Boot > Compatibility Support Module). Change the boot device control to Legacy OPROM only. (This makes the hard drive re-appear). you may need to save and exit and then re-enter the BIOS.

Now, you should see your SSD in the boot disk selection menu, but (most likely) you have some other drive erroneously in the throne seat for booting. On to step 2:

Step 2: Enter advanced mode in the BIOS and go to Boot > Hard Drive BBS Priorities. Now change your boot disk to be the top priority.

Save and Exit.

Reboot.

Win.
