AMD Radeon HD 7770 1GBD5-HE
Intel® Desktop Board DQ35JO (bios 1143, most recent)
Corsair CX600 PSU
Hitachi HDT721032SLA380 ATA Device
Windows 7 Ultimate (32bit)

So, I recently replaced my motherboard with the above board. After installing to the latest bios, I attempted to install my HD 7770 in IDE drive mode, only to find the bios splash hanging with a 5A error code frozen in the corner (I believe this refers to SATA/PATA bus reset error). Before this, the system booted normally, and removing the GPU allows it to do so again. I edited the registry to install AHCI drivers and switched to AHCI drive mode in the bios. Again, it boots normally without the GPU, but when the GPU is installed an error claiming "no bootable devices found" is returned. A check of the bios screen revealed that when the GPU was in, the HDD was no longer detected. Again, removing the GPU allows the PC to boot normally. I've tested all components in another machine, and individually they work fine, and also work fine without the GPU present. I've tried every solution I know so, perhaps someone can help?

TL;DR - the GPU causes two separate problems when installed in two separate drive modes, a bios splash freeze or HDD detection failure. A solution to either is desired desperately. Thanks in advance!

No, the mobo is second-hand... I'll look into borrowing an older graphics card to further test the PCI-e slot, otherwise I'll just have to suck it up and buy a new one.

PC booted fine with both the ATI HD 4600 and Nvidia 8800 GT installed. I'm starting to think it's a compatibility issue unfortunately.

UPDATE - PC specs lists these components as all being compatible. Problem must lie elsewhere

It was Packard-Bell, before I got my claws into it. Now pretty much every piece has been tweaked or replaced. Only the processor, HDD and CD drive (an ATAPI DVD A DH16AASH ATA) remain original. Nothings given me as many headaches as replacing this mobo though.

Plan to try booting with no CD drive, and then with a HDD predelay set up on a friends recommendation.
