but is the budget for the gpu or the complete pc?

if the budget is for the gpu there are 3 options:

r9 290 best value for your money: 400 dollars you can find it cheaper on used in amazon
gtx 780 beast of overclocker: 500 dollars
r9 290x: second best single gpu on the market: 550 dollars you can find it cheaper on used in amazon

If you are talking for the hole pc:

r7 265: 150 dollars
gtx 750ti: 150 dollars
r9 270: 180 dollars

I would go for the GTX 780 SC. It is one of the best cards you can get with that budget. if you don’t really care about the extras you get with NVIDIA, the R9 290 is also a great card. They are both very close in performance, it just depends on what games you will be playing.

Sorry, the link also has high end graphics cards. Your options are R9-290, GTX 780 and RP-290X. The GTX 780Ti is a little more than your budget.

The R9-290X would be the best card if it is in your budget , otherwise the GTX 780 is the answer.

As of right now NVIDIA is the better performer when it comes to Watch Dogs. You should have no problems playing any game out right now on ultra @ 1080p with the 780

For overall value go with this 290x, it's only $480 and out performs the 780 in most games:

Watchdogs is performing better with Nvidia cards due to Nvidia Gameworks ( basically the programmers at Nvidia work with the company's developers to optimize the game for Nvidia cards) however the difference in fps is maybe around 5fps in Watch Dogs, not too bad.

I just bought a EVGA GTX 780 FTW edition for $525!
it is faster than the superclocked version and has dual bios for some sick OC'ing!
After i get it and OC it even further, i would be willing to put it up against any 290X

Basically it depends upon where you live. The prices vary across the globe. Pick one of those three cards that best suits your budget in your area. Any of the three will do a great job.

If you haven't purchased the graphics card already, the GTX 980 is in the $550 price range. It is the current fastest graphics card.

The best bang for buck would be the 970, not really the 980.
