So I currently have 4GB (2 x 2GB) of the ram shown here:

Now, i just received my new G. Skill RAM 8GB (2 x 4GB) shown here:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231445

What I'm wondering is, would running 8GB dual channel of the new G. Skill RAM be better than running all 12GB? If possible, I would like to run dual channel for the first 2 sticks and dual channel on the other 2 sticks. I know that the models are different but the speeds and timings are the same according to newegg. I realize I'll have to tweak my bios to get the timings where I want it though.

Also, with the default BIOS settings, my RAM is only being recognized at 1333MHz. I have yet to make any adjustments in the bios. All responses are greatly appreciated, thanks.

Here's my specs:

Phenom II x4 965BE 3.4GHz
NF980-G65 mobo
EVGA GeForce GTX 760 2GB
Windows 7 x64
H50 cooling

Solution
Try DDR3-1333 8-8-8-24 1.60V, then see if you can work your way up to DDR3-1600. XMP is irrelevant, they are designed for a single kit and you are attempting multiple different kits so you need to manually input settings to see what can work perfectly stable. The 965 CPU technically supports DDR3-1333 max, so additional tweaks will be necessary to stabilize DDR3-1600 (if DDR3-1333 works fine). If the system is not stable at any speed for 12GB, then 8GB will be much better.

I suggest installing the RAM as 2GB (1) / 4GB (2) / 2GB (3) / 4GB (4)

Keep us posted and let us know how it goes!

Thanks for your responses. I'm not sure how to enable XMP on them though. I've searched my bios settings in the past and I've never seen an option to disable/enable XMP. I'll look again though just in case.

Thanks for the link. Unfortunately my bios doesn't allow me to enable/disable XMP. There is one option that just shows XMP Support Information and that's it. I'm still experimenting with my settings right now too though
