Basically, i want to buy a SSD and it's between these 2:

PNY XLR8 (non pro) 120 GB SATA III for $1083 (Mex) (about $84.21 USD).

or

Intel 520-series 180 GB SATA III for $1,500 (Mex) (about $116.64 USD).

It's for upgrading my laptop HDD. Which one will perform better for normal usage: internet, office. I also use AutoCAD and Photoshop sometimes. And which consumes less energy.

More about : ssd pny xlr8 intel 520 series

Go for the one with more capacity. Plus Intel may be the better choice anyway.I have an Intel series 335.
It works great.

There would be very little difference in power or real-world performance.

I recommend one of THESE instead:

1) The SAMSUNG 840 EVO as it has really awesome (Samsung Magician). It allows you to overprovision (recommended), set profile, benchmark and update software.

The EVO also has a Rapid Cache feature that can share some of your System RAM as a buffer and may increase performance in some scenarios (not all the time).

2) SANDISK has an inexpensive 256GB SSD for $115 that has good reviews:

SUMMARY:
Go with the SANDISK unless you can find the EVO for cheap. Really can't boot the price and frankly ALL SATA3 performance in the real-world is basically the same.

There is a VIDEO here that shows you how to update your firmware. The Samsung method with Samsung Magician is easier, but it's not like you do it often and the $115 price of the 256GB Sandisk is just too great a value to pass up IMO.

The 250GB Samsung 840 EVO can be found for $140 ($25 more):
http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Electronics-EVO-Series-2-...

Again, they'd be basically identical in the real world so you're mainly paying for the better software to easily benchmark, overprovision, update firmware, and pick a profile all from within Samsung Magician and it can check for you if an update exists.

Well, I know that the samsung 840 Evo has the best value. I just found a 120GB 840 Evo at $1660.40 (Mex) (about $127.69 USD). I'm sure it would be a good investment.

But I don't want to spend more than I need. If I'm not going to really perceive the performance difference between the 840 Evo ($128 USD) and the PNY XLR8 ($84 USD), as I'm not an extreme pro user (I do pro work, but mostly MS Office and a few AutoCAD) so... that's it. Is like installing and 780Ti for playing Minecraft

Seems like you are not from US, otherwise NewEgg link quoted in my previous quote you can get 840 EVO 120gb in $89.

I'm from Mexico, here all hardware and laptops are quite more expensive, supposedly from the importing taxes. But sometimes the prices are just ridiculous, like a AMD E2-1800 laptop being sold at $8000 (mex) (about $615 USD).

Thanks everyone, but I bought a Lite On 128GB SATA 3, Dell OEM. I found good reviews about this one and it was cheap. The reviews showed the it was head to head with the Samsung ssd, maybe it has less quality but it's just for SO, I'll be using and external HDD.
As my laptop is also Dell, maybe this ssd will add some resell value in the future. I also bought a few days ago a Dell Bluetooth keyboard and mouse kit.

Saludos desde Mexico
