Im just wondering what the community thinks about these two cards head to head. Im about to build a new system and really cant decide on the gpu. I love the potential the 780 ti classified has in its overclocking capabilities, but is that good enough compared to the easy water cooling i can do to the Poseidon with the money i save buying it instead. ( about $160 dollars which could go towards a water cooling kit)

Thoughts?

A overclocked and water cooled 780 will edge a 780 Ti at stock speeds. Bit who leave their GPU at stock speeds ? :)

Though frankly I'd wait for the MSI 780 Ti Lightning. The MSI 780 Ti is the highest rated 780 Ti according to techpowerup who gave it a 9.9 rating and its $600 !!!.... the EVGA 780 Ti SC is a ridiculous $710 and the Asus is $10 more.... At $740 for the Classified .... it's certainly no where near $140 better than the MSI.

The Lightning was rumored to be dead never to go to retail but it will be inrroduced at Ciomputex next week...

Update - Only 12 samples of the GeForce GTX 780 Ti Lightning were manufactured by MSI and the card will never go retail. More pictures of this beautiful graphics card have been posted by BenchBros (Facebook), a few of which you can see at the end of this article.

Whether this is a new design or same one from back in january, have not a yet been able to determine but those that saw te original called it a match and then some for not only the Classified but the Kingpin edition.

thanks for your feedback guys you all make great points. and thanks for the links jacknaylorpe. too bad about the lightning. i was thinking of the classified because to my understanding evga checks them to be the best overclockable versions of their card besides i think the kingpin. and your right, who doesnt overclock their card. especially if i dish the extra cash to get a damn classified. i guess im leaning towards the 780 ti for sure

You are reading the 1st link right.....it's a story from 4 months ago.

Now look at what i said and the link to the story from 2 days ago.....that says MSI is showing the card at Computex next week.

The Lightning was rumored to be dead never to go to retail but it will be introduced at Computex next week.

Why would MSI "introduce" a dead card next week ?

In addition to introducing an army of new motherboards, MSI will also showcase new graphics cards next week during COMPUTEX. These include the GTX 780 Lightning, GTX 780 Ti Lightning and the R9 290X Lightning. Also on display will be its line of "Gaming" and "Pro Series" cards.

The MSI Lightnings that were showcased in January were 3 slot cards which to my mind have little potential fr market success. The fact that they say "new graphics cards", implies..... well at least to me and assuming the author of that article is reasonably up on the state of technology in the market .... that this is a "new" Lightning, not the "old" Lightning that we saw back in January.
