ide not working on a dell 3000 series

Am Patrick.
I tried to conect my harddrive on my dell 3000 series it is saying "no boot device availabele"it can't recorgonise any plz help

Few things.

1) Do you even have an OS on the drive?

2) Check to see if the drive is a master or slave. It should so the proper pinout on it. Try to make it the master if its the only one on the ribbon (Can have up to 2 drives on each ribbon)

3) Check the BIOS and make sure that the IDE is enabled
