I recently bought a new motherboard (Intel DH87RL), processor (Intel i7-4770k), and 16gb dd3 Ram.

My problem is that I should be getting a minimum clock of 3.5 ghz and an automatic turbo boost of 3.9 ghz. So ideally thats the range, but my task manager, cpu-id and benchmark tests show me a 3.0 ghz max. I spoke to my vendor and Intel, and replaced both the cpu and motherboard seperately thinking the parts might be faulty. But its the same thing.

I'm thinking the motherboard cant handle the full functionality of the processor. Neither intel support or intel's website show me any problems with this combination. So I'm not sure, but I'm guessing the problem is the motherboard. But i need a more informed response.

Here's a benchmark report with my full hardware settings: http://www.3dmark.com/fs/2157257. i'm also using a 700watt SMPS.

I'd really appreciate it if someone could give a specific solution to my problem.

P.S: Two of my friends have the same processor but different motherboards, (gigabyte and ASUS), and neither of them has this problem.

Go into your motherboard bios and check the clock settings for your CPU. Make sure Intel Turbo boost is enabled.

If you don't see any options relating to this it could just be that your motherboard does not support higher than 3.0GHz for some strange reason.

I looked at every option in the BIOS. There's no such thing. I've already set my processor to high performance in the power settings from windows and checked that its the same in the BIOS. There's no way to do it without offsetting or over clocking it from the BIOS. The BIOS shows me a "Host Clock Frequency" of 100 mhz and 3.00 ghz. I dont think i can change that.

I wish Intel would specify this on their compatibility links because now I'm going to have a real hard time replacing this with a better motherboard.

Changing the power setting in Windows won't do much (it's not really for effecting the Clock speeds of anything).

If the BIOS has no options then yes, you will have to get a different motherboard. I would suggest contacting Intel about a refund because although the CPU "can" work on that motherboard it most certainly doesn't support it working at the listed operating frequency (3.5GHz) and that is, in my opinion not fully compatible.

So I fixed the problem. Turns out all I needed to do was reset my bios to "default settings". That fixed everything. Almost a month of frustration and this is all it was.

Thank you for the help though. I would've probably bought a new motherboard if it wasnt for this thread.

After setting default setting you might want to check the memory timings & speed to make sure that they did not default to the board's slower speed.

The default setting restored the turbo setting. Its now at 3.90 ghz, as it should be. All my tests are working fine too. So everything seems to be just right.

What about the memory though? Are the timings and speed correct? The 3.9GHz is the CPU.
