BIOS doesn't pick up my HDD

I have read a lot of forum posts about this problem but nothing seems to be working and some of the BIOS tips people give are unclear to me.

I have recently built a PC will all new parts. Everything loads up and when I go to install Windows 7 it doesn't pick up my HDD. I go into BIOS and doesn't see it in the SATA port I have it plugged into.

I have an Asus P8Z77-V LX motherboard and the HDD is a Seagate 500GB 3.5" SATA-III 6Gb/s Barracuda Hard Drive 7200RPM 16MB Cache OEM.

I have tried different power cables to the HDD and when I boot I can feel the HDD spinning and it lights up on front of case. I have moved the SATA connection to all the different ones and it doesn't get recognised in any. I know they all work because the optical drive is still picked up in any of them. I have used the SATA cable the optical drive had as I know for sure that one works but still no joy.

I have my HDD currently in SATA6G_1 spot as my motherboard manual suggests. I have tried a few of the BIOS tips people have said but it is like they are speaking to a pro builder and I am not that.

I have no other machine to test parts out on.

I went onto the Seagate website and found an old troubleshoot guide and one of the things it says is that the device may not be enabled in BIOS and to switch it on. It gives an example using an old Dell BIOS but I can't see anything like that in my BIOS.

Thanks in advance to anyone that can offer any help to this issue.

Solution
If the ports will pick up your optical drive, but not the hard drive, the drive is bad. You need to return it for a replacement.
I know it sucks when you are ready to run that new build right now, but it happens.
Perhaps the drive is just DOA? It happens. Easiest thing may be to contact Seagate support and they will either tell you what to do or else send you a new drive, assuming it is under warranty still.

And try a different SATA cable. The one you are using could be bad, that happens too. Also examine the SATA connector on the drive and make sure it looks good.

I have already thought it possible that the HDD is dead but as I am not the most experienced builder I thought maybe I would ask first as I may have missed something. If no one has anything I will just send back HDD for a new one.
