Windows 8.1 MS update for AMD breaks Catalyst Control 06/01/14

In a moment of pure stupidity I chose to install a Windows 8.1 optional update last night that read
"Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. - Graphics Adapter WDDM1.3 - AMD RADEON HD 6670".

On top of being stupid enough to install it I ignored the fact that Microsoft provided no information about the update.

Well, as soon as it installed Catalyst Control crashed. I have tried rolling back drivers, re-installing Catalyst. I am unable to find an uninstall option for the "Installed Updates", other than the history showing that this was installed.

Any one have any ideas on how to remove this update as there is no uninstall option. And yes, I have checked with 'view installed updates' as well as without.

If this helps, the 'device manager history' for the video display adapter states,

"Driver Management concluded the process to install driver
cu171190.inf_amd64_0ac955a49dab3963\cu171190.inf for Device Instance ID PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_6758&SUBSYS_03EA1043&REV_00\4&3C0D220&0&0010 with the following status: 0x0."

As the problem doesn't go away reinstalling Catalyst Control I need to get rid of this MS screwup, and then I'll beat myself up some more for being so stupid as to update my drivers without a good need to do so.
TIA.

Thanks for the reminder. :( Unfortunatly the restore fails with a file in use 'possibly by virus software'. Well, after four attempts, disabling virus software, running ATIs uninstall all, disabling un-needed services, and killing processes, the restore still fails.

I think one of the problems with attempting to fix the problem is that catalyst won't run. It appears that AMD using that program to perform the uninstall. Even after running AMD/ATI remove all app. which is supposed to to remove all ATI products there still remains crap installed. :( Also, when ever the uninstall's are run it tries to run Catalyst and of course it abends.

What ever MS did with this update appears to be an indirect cockup of Catalyst. I examined the even logs and I see that starting with this update that Catalyst is failing with the following errors. It appears that perhaps some API has been altered which is causing the problem. Seeing these errors I'm sure that I won't be the only one experiencing problems with their 6670 video cards and hopefully AMD will fix the issue as it appears to be a programming error with reflection.

After six attempts to recover and recovery telling me that it failed, I realized that something had changed. When I hit the "check of updates" the amd update showed up as being ready to be installed. Side note: Since then it appears that MS has removed this patch as it is no longer available for downloads, thank them for that.

I was able to reinstall a relatively current version of catalyst control.

I didn't get to the point of trying out Suztera's recommendation of using the software from guru3d.com as I was unfamiliar without but I have it downloaded and hopefully I'll remember to try it out next time I have a video driver problem.

I've had my fingers crossed for the past week hoping for no ill effects of attempting the Windows restore. There was an issue with a certificate. Not sure if that was related at all, but it probably is but isn't a major concern other than avoid confirming it until I can check it out.
