So my laptop is right next to my router with nothing in between but I still can't seem to achieve full Ethernet speeds. I have a 100/5 connection and my desktop (Ethernet) gets ~105 and my laptop (wifi-802.11n) gets ~72. Both devices reach the max upload of 5. I played around with the b/g/n, channel, and channel width settings and they don't seem to help. Is this just some limitation with wifi that even with no physical interference, it still cannot reach full speed? I mean, 72 is great, but it wouldn't hurt to get full speed if possible.

Solution
The WiFi max limit is based on a theoretical max, in real life, error checking, outside interference from other wifi signals, other devices on the same wifi signal, etc... all take a bite from the max speed you will see.
72Mbit is very good for wireless. Are you using 2.4ghz or 5ghz? If you are using 2.4ghz then that is about the best you are going to get. If using 5ghz you may be able to get a little better speed depending on your wireless router.
