I downgraded from windows 8 (thank god), and I have some old applications/games already installed since they were on different partitions how do I make the OS see the applications? Because when I made a shortcut for steam onto a folder on my desktop it started installing steam right there on that folder. So is there a way the OS realizes that they're already installed?

Hi

Most programs write a few files to c:/windows/system32 and c:/program files
And the registry
Without these files & registry settings these programs will need to be installed again
You may be able to pursuade the installation to go to d:/program files instead of c:/program files to save space on c: if c: is a SSD
