Recently I got a new processor(intel core 2 duo) for my PPGA478 laptop(making sure it didnt say PGA or BPGA) and when install the laptop starts then shuts down. I reinstalled the old processor and it started up fine. I then installed a bios update thinking that was the problem but the bios update is from 05 which the processor i have is 07. Is there anyway to fix this issue? I am willing to buy any dual core as long as it works with the bios update.

Laptop: HP Pavilion ze4547wm

The reason im trying to upgrade the processor is because i do not want to spend 700 for a laptop with a expresscard slot, when i can just upgrade my cpu .

Thanks in Advance

There isn't much difference between the Core Duos... the original CPU is 2002 technology and you're trying to replace it with a 2007 CPU... they are completely different only the socket appears to be compatible but it's really not. You have differences like 64bit instruction set vs 32 bit, 800MHZ FSB vs 400MHZ, 65nm die size vs 130nm, 2MB cache vs 256kb, etc. etc., and a single one of those differences is enough to make them incompatible.

You would also have to replace CPU, motherboard and RAM type... or replace CPU only with one of these compatible replacements=>http://ark.intel.com/products/codename/1837/Northwood#@Mobile
