I am wondering if it is safe to even try overclocking a phenom ii x4 965 black edition to 4ghz with a corsair h100 water cooling loop.

More about : 4ghz safe phenom 965 h100

not sure you can get one to run that high can you?......... I would lower the multiplier and bump the FSB as far as I could with some decent ram.

don't think you need a 100. a 90 should do pretty good......... unless you get the 100 at around $95..??

Define "safe", lol. Is it possible you could still reduce its lifetime---yes. Is it safer than the the stock cooler---yes. Is it worth spending $80-100 to cool a CPU that is now worth about $50-60 for a few more MHz---up to you.

I had my 965BE overclocked to 4.3ghz with air cooling! :)

It was one of the CPUs I used, to write the Black Edition Overclock Guide.

That CPU is still in use today so I would say it is safe to overclock it to 4ghz, and further with that Corsair H100.

We'll I have the 100 already. I increased the multiplier to 20 (black edition has unlocked multiplier) and ran prime 95 for about two hours, it didn't go over 42 c. Is that a pretty stable oc?

I'm not a grandpa, but definitely old enough to be one, and the ship I served on in the Navy was made of steel with a rubber expansion joint, my back porch is made of wood though, Does that count? :)

All the men I know are made of tenacity! :)

Myself. Look at these threads around here. This one is especially awesome:

This is what I have been using lately though.

Nice clock on that as well!

I saw that thread and the more I read confirmed the fact that some people just don't need to go inside of their computers at all!

Looked to me you were doing the best you could! :)
