I took apart my Medion Akoya eE5300 D, upgraded to a top notch case and powersupply, and then replaced the ATI Radeon HD 3450 Graphics Card with a Sapphire Radeon HD 7950. It was an old machine, having issues with slowness due to too much garbage being installed on it over the years. So I did a complete system restore back to factory on the hard drive. I uninstalled the preloaded Catalyst ATI drivers. I then used the CD that came with the Radeon 7950 to install Catalyst drivers. The log told me that everything went fine, but it also told me that the hardware detected was a Radeon HD 3200. It then wanted a reboot, after which I got a BSOD. I booted in safe mode and it would not let me uninstall the drivers. So then I did another complete system restore. This time I ran the AMD driver downloader / AMD Driver auto detect. It detects that my graphics hardware is a Radeon HD 3xxx Series PCIe. Again if I installl, I get the BSOD. So at this point I'm not sure what to do. How do I get it to recognize that I have a 7950 installed and not a 3xxx? My only option at this point seems to be to run stock vga drivers.

Solution
Can you uninstall the gfx drivers in normal Windows mode? If so, do that again, and then run Driver Sweeper from safe mode. http://www.techspot.com/downloads/4266-driver-sweeper.html
Have it remove any remnants of Nvidia, ATI, and AMD GRAPHIC drivers it finds. There may still be remnants in the registry confusing things.

Re-boot and then run CCleaner. Do the Clean and Registry portions both: https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner
Finally, install the latest driver again for your card and OS.

Note: you may want to run CCleaner before doing anything. But be sure to run it after re-booting from Driver Sweeper.
