Hello, today I installed 2x4GBs DDR3 ram into my computer. my computer has enough power and has a radeon HD 7770. I tested each stick in memtest and in Bios shows I have 8 GB installed. However, when I open up resource monitor in the task manager it shows 1 GB is 'hardware reserved'. On top of that, the OS takes up 1 GB of ram so in reality I only have 5-6GBs available. I asked an expert on another website and they said that my computer was reserving 1 GB for the onboard memory, even though I'm not using it. My Radeon HD 7770 has more than enough ram, 2 GBs to run. Please help.

mine shows 70mb reserved theres got to be memory for the system to access full time and is normal but why your 1gb and i'm 70mb don't know but I show no separate usage for hardware and system just 70mb for that and the rest shows stand by and free and in use that changes as I go

no... My OS ins't using 1 GB of that space. My computer is just irrationally taking RAM.

well ya it will you may have a program that hogs it like chrome or some other.. in that resource monitor it should show what is using the memory like ccc on mine is the 2ed most user on my memory and msmpeng is the 3ed if theres a lot of unnessery things that require full time memory use weather you use then or not it going to take its share I my self don't try to run unnecessary crap or gimmickware if you use onboard graphics that can use like 50% of your memory just for it .. lots of factors to look at on this

Thank you guys, I fixed this by opening Msconfig and unchecking the box that showed how much ram I had.
