Hi,

I recently built a new computer and I am having problems with installing windows 8.1, it is a first time install and I just get the message "reboot and select proper boot device".

My computer specs are;
HyperX Blu Series 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Asus M5A99FX PRO R2.0 Motherboard
AMD FX8320 Black Edition 8 Core
EVGA 600W Bronze PC Power Supply
MSI GTX 760 2GB GDDR5
Kingston Technology 120GB Solid State Drive 2.5-inch V300 SATA 3
optical drive - pulled it out my old family pc

I have made sure the primary boot drive is the optical drive as that seems to be the main solution I have come across but no luck.

Any ideas? I really appreciate the help.

That's the only thing I could put it down to tbh, I will give it a try once I get a new drive. Thanks for the reply.

Since it is a pull from an old computer it might be questionable. Get a new drive; they are around $20.

Any other ideas what might be the problem if that doesn't work?
