Solution

I would simplify your question to this:

Will modern games play well with an AMD FX 8320 paired with an R9 270 on 1080p?

As an answer to that, I think it should do fairly well, around 60 FPS at 1080 in almost everything. The 8320 will present itself as a bottleneck in the long run because of the weak nature of AMD's cores.

I would recommend an Intel chip, but overall I think the 8320 should just get by. If...

I would recommend an Intel chip, but overall I think the 8320 should just get by. If you haven't bought yet, get an i3 or i5 from Intel, and then you will have really nice performance.

Solution
Go Intel for gaming -

Reasons:
----------

1) Lower Power Consumption

2) When you see intense graphics in high end games, Intel's single core performance will keep FPS constant whereas AMD FX will slightly stutter.

3) i5 with R9 270 = Very Silent
FX 8320 with R9 270 = Noisy

4) All the above points are from my personal experience.

5) Recommendation: i5 4670 + R9 270 is the gaming beast.

Update: FPS depends upon the game you play. For instance, my recommended rig can play most of the games with 60 FPS. Watch dogs can work around 40 - 45 FPS with V-Sync off. Overall, it's a good gaming rig and a future proof too.
