Hello, I'm trying to get a new motherboard for my computer. I have a AMD Athlon II x2 255 processor. I want to upgrade my motherboard from an EL-1352 to this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157323&cm_re=motherboard-_-13-157-323-_-Product

I'm sure my set up is compatible as it is if I upgraded, but I plan on upgrading my CPU later. The CPU I'm thinking about is http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819113285
The reason I don't think it's compatible is because for CPU type for motherboard says Athlon II. I'm not 100% sure what that means. I was under the impression if it had the same slot you're good to go. Enlightenment would be appreciated here.

And a quick question about ram chips: in 2x240 and 4x240, does the 2 and 4 means the # of slots in the motherboard?

the x2 240 refers to the processor being dual core (hence a 4 core athlon II would be an x4) 240 is the model number.
other examples would be a phenom II x3 720, athlon II x4 640. As you can see there is no correlation between the model# and the number of the number of cores.

The new line of FX- processors, the first digit is the number of cores. 8320 and 8350 and 8 core. 6300 is 6 cores...

Motherbds support a wide variety of cpu's but its best to visit the manufacturers support page and check the official cpu support list.
Heres the one for the motherbd you linked above:

By the 4x240 I was talking about the pins for ram chips.

So I'm confused... Under the items I linked for the CPU and Motherboard, what specifications are indicators that they aren't compatible?

Not the best board but the best that will fit your current case and support both processors:
http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/M5A78LMUSB3/HelpDesk_CPU/

If you are getting a new case too then I would get:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128514
but make sure your case supports an ATX sized mothermd.
(the other bd I linked is a micro ATX bd (matx)

and yes, the 2x/4x refers to the number of ram slots. (my bad)
