Hello,
i have been trying to install Linux Devian on my old computer. I tried to boot it from a live CD, so i burned the disc, followed all the directions on how to, then upon booting the old thing (running Dell from 2008) it wouldnt boot from the disc. After a few other tries, i tried another approach. I tried to boot from USB. I used UnetBooten to make the Live USB, but when i booted up the computer with it set to boot from "removable" first, i get the error "diskette drive 0 seek failure F1: Continue F2: Setup" so i pressed continue and got the message "Boot Error" any ideas what to do?
UPDATE: if it helps at all the top of the BIOS menus says:
Pheonix - AwardBIOS CMOS Setup Utility

From boot menu: check to see if USB drive is actually listed under "hard drives" instead of removable disks. Also I have never had luck using unetbootin. I always use linuxliveusb (lili) under windows.
Also consider disable floppy device in bios.

If it really is an old PC, the BIOS might not offer USB Legacy Support, meaning it can't power the USB ports until the operating system cuts in and takes over.

Circa 2008, is not "old" by any means

As a 1946 vintage myself (good year :D ) I tend to agree but it's worth checking the setting for Legacy Support. One of my Linux PCs is one I built to run XP in 2002 but it's still going strong and performs well.

Sounds to me like you have a bad download, either check the md5 or redownload.

Come to think of it, it's rather strange that the OP posted these events in this order:-
I tried to boot it from a live CD, so i burned the disc, followed all the directions on how to,

Xavier - what utility did you use to burn the ISO and the download on to a disk?

I tried to do the Live disc installation first, so i followed the instructions from Debian's website, downloaded the ISO file and burned it to a blank, 700 MB CD-R. that gave me nothing, even with the optical drive set as the first boot device. When i tried the Live USB method, i used UnetBooten and when i went to the computer's BIOS before trying to instal, i realized that it had a floppy disc set, so i removed it, which solved the diskette error. Also in BIOS, i swiched the main boot device to removable, then went into the priorities for removable and t recognized the USB stick i had plugged into the computer, so i set that as the #1 priority. Hope that clears it up
