Failure At Start

Each morning my Win 8.1 PC will not start. It appears to go through the motions, judging by the screen flashes I see, then sits idle.
The only way I can then get it started is to press the reset button on the tower. The PC then starts up albeit quite slowly.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
I watch the screen as it is trying to start up and I see flashing glimpses of the various steps that I have seen during normal startup, but these are gone "in the blink of a eye".
The screen then goes black and nothing more happens.
Sometimes I have given it up to 10 minutes and still no progress.
It is then that I can get startup by pushing the reset button.
I am 76 and somewhat new to computing and do appreciate your interest.

does the motions refers to the loading animation of windows 8
