I've been interested in getting a new computer, I was going to build a desktop but at the moment it is more economical to just buy a laptop. Its going to be used for a lot of movies and music, homework, hopefully minecraft, and web browsing. I know the Intel i5 and i7 are good, but how are the i3's? Also are there any good AMD processors you can suggest? Are there any other good Intel processors?

I3 is fine for general use. It can play lighter games fine on low settings.

For AMD I would go with an A8/A10. The A8 is a tad behind the i3 in general use. The A10 is on par with the i3 in general use( word, email, internet, etc..). However they A8 and A10 will game better because of their stronger integrated graphics.

In general Intel does have the lead in basic use and I think it would be a good fit for your planned uses.

You should go for an i5 at least because i3 Intel CPUs don't have turboboost. Anything Sandy Bridge or newer is about the same performance besides the integrated GPU performance gains.
AMD has been lagging in the mobile department but it may work fine for you

i5 isnt an option
it is basically i3 with higher clock and speed boost :)

go for i7 4 cores 8 thread cpu if you can afford
some i7 with U letter offer 2 cores 4 threads which is similar to i3

you can see comparison of i7 mobile cpu here
