Hello...I think i got some sort of virus cuz (unless I pressed the wrong button) my PC (HP a1512x media ctr ed.) had some files zapped from existence as I watched...for some of it. I was in "explore" open-window mode, and clicked tne "system32" folder by mistake and all the files showed up on the right. hand panel. A second later, I watfched as all but about 4 of the files in System32 just disappeared. Gone. Not in the recycle bin, not accidentally moved to a nearby folder, etc.but just POOF --gone. SO, now, I get the BlueScreenOfDeath whenever i log on to windows NOT in safe mode. I can get into safe mode & search & explore * and all, but windows update site says check back later, and ALL the USB elements in the "usb devices" part of Device Manager jhave the exclamation point, and some do too in the system devices. Now, when I try to update drivers for the USB's , I get either "acces denied," "your computer's firmware doesn't have enough information to complete this" OR "that the full driver wasn't installed correctly in the inf file (I think it said inf) INF file because it was made for windows 95 or lower. The usb's, right before the disappearing system32 files, were 2.0 Now, tyey're being seen as 1.1, and when I try & install my c920 webcam it says that it's a 1.1 and the camera needs a 2.0 and then quits installation.

I'm at my wits' end here folks.....I must fix this or I'm gonna be in an asylum by next week..
Thanks in advance for your help!
-Bill

Can you do a clean/fresh re-install of windows?

If you want to back up any files, you could load a Linux live CD that supports reading NTSF/FAT32 file systems and copy your important data to an external drive/USB.

Definitely do a virus scan if possible from a Live CD/DVD. You can find many options online to scan a Windows drive from a Linux Live CD for any viruses and backup your files too.
