Hello,

I have a 250 gigabyte Western Digital portable hard drive. A while ago I had wanted to reformat the drive because I know that it is healthy to completely clean a hard drive. When I did this I took all of the files from the drive and saved them back onto my computer which worked fine; although when I went and tried to load the files back onto the drive was where I began to have some issues. It loaded a handful of the files and I had an error message appear on the screen it says:

1 Interrupted Action

An unexpected error is keeping you from copying your file. If you continue to receive this error, you can use the code to search for help with this problem.

Error 0x8007045D: The request could not be completed because of an I/O device error.

I bypassed this file and it appeared again and again. I recently took it to a computer store and they told me that the message does not mean that the drive is corrupted but they were not sure how to fix it. They told me to restart my computer while pressing F8 so that I start my computer in safe mode; although I tried this twice to no avail it just completely started up as usual never even asking me about safe mode. The other thing that I was advised to do was to post my question here.

What must I do to get the drive to work?

Run Checkdisk on that drive from the Command Prompt and use the syntax
chkdsk x: /r
where x is the drive letter. The /r switch will run a five stage process to find and fix any errors. Your files are probably in good condition but it's just the input/output error that's the problem.
