So I recently bought an i5-4670k / AZ97-A MOBO and 2 Sticks of 4096 MB G.Skill DDR3 @ 800 MHz. I already had a Gigabyte GTX 670 Graphics card. So I went to do a 3D Mark "Fire Strike" test and I seem to be getting half what the majority of people get with my same build.

Here are my actual results - http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/3180425?

Here is a comparison with someone who has essentially the same stats..

http://www.3dmark.com/compare/fs/2224265/fs/1537133

Why is there such a huge discrepancy? I feel like I'm losing some performance somewhere but I have no idea why. My results are the ones under "Slang-2" Thanks for any help you guys can provide.

never ever base your computers performance by a score, they are never accurate and sometimes they are completely off. I would only base your performance off your gaming experience, which is the real test to what performance you really have.

Ask them on their forum.

Fair responses. I felt sluggish in some games so i felt that was the best way to determine if my pc was as powerful as it should be.

Done a health check? Download and run HWInfo - sensors.

Check cpu - temps, voltages, fan speed, clock speed
gpu - same
psu - voltages

Scan for viruses. Do a DiskCheck

Whilst I don't think there is anything wrong with comparing scores - in many respects it's a decent metric for comparison of same spec machines - but you must keep in mind that 3dmark results do NOT make it clear how overclocked a machine's result may be. You will almost certainly be way less that the top ones because they will have been pushed far beyond average overclocks just to try and be the top for any given spec. If you're running at or near stock speeds it'll just look even worse.

Did a virus scan. I have this HWINFO thing open now..sorry not sure what to look for in it. I dont know if its showing as "healthy" or not.

@cozmium I guess it did say I was 33% faster then some but I found it strange I was in a bracket with one other person. There were like 50ish people much lower but 800 people much higher.

start with -

cpu - temps, Vcore, speed, fan speed

psu - 12v, 5v and 3.3V readings

gpu - voltage, temps, gpu clock speed, memory speed, fan rpm

no there is something going on there that is a bad score for that set up and yes it is true dont base scores on each other because 3dmark doesnt pick up on overclocks sometimes or shows completely wrong clock rates ie like it could be overclocked on my i5 @4.6ghz but it will show as stock clock speeds but you should be around the 5000 mark. what is the gtx670 you have?

I just bought the i5-4670k / AZ97-A MOBO and 2 Sticks of 4096 MB G.Skill DDR3 @ 800 MHz on Saturday so its a semi new build. The video card I've had for over a year but it almost seems like its been a downgrade from my previous system (Phenom II X4 Black Edition).

Sorry about the double post. I've only used toms forums a few times and I didnt realize I was posting answers when asking my follow ups. I'm willing to provide any data you need...this is driving me crazy.

Did you format windows or just leave your current installation? I would say uninstall anything you don't use, disable all startup items and give it a try. I would personally be concerned about the score if it were that far off, something is wrong.

I did format yes and I've made sure everything that can be off is off.

DO you have 2 monitors? Grab GPU-Z and CPU-Z and check and make sure your processor is running at full speed, as well as your gpu core/memory clock are going full speed as well as full GPU Load, also make sure non of them are overheating and under-clocking each other.

Truthfully I'm not sure what speeds I should be looking for. This is what I have..not sure if this helps.

Also yes I have two monitors via DVI and a TV plugged in via HDMI all 3 into the GTX670

If you go over to graphics card tab on the top of GPU-z it will tell you what your gpu and memory clocks are set to max at. Your 4670k reaches 3.8 turbo so that looks normal. Now what I would do is put those in your second monitor and play a game with fps displaying (try fraps if you don't have anything) Now monitor it and see if your FPS stays the same or slows down gradually during gameplay. Now on the second thing to do is look at the gpu and cpu clock speeds and see if they are staying at full speed throughout the gaming or if they don't reach it (some games it will fluctuate whih is fairly normal) of if it gets stuck at a lower speed.
