Looking at an options for my slow network speed.

I have two computers that are networked together, however even on a 10/100/1000 line copying/moving a lot of data from these two computers to my Linux box can sometimes take hours and when I mean hours, i'm taking like 300gb in 7+hrs and the copy/move speed is only 17MB/s

I was wondering I have 3 extra 10/100/1000 networking cards, is there a way I could put these in the machines and create another network so it copies on that and not the network that has my internet.

For instance all my computers are running through ClearOS 5.2. out to 2 Trendnet 8 port switches, I have a 3rd switch which i'm not using could I add in those 3 cards, and create a private network like 10.10.42.01, .02, .03. and let it copy on that.

Or is it possible to bind them together to increase the speed. I hear my friends getting 100MB/s+ higher speeds, I've even seen it. I'm even tempted to drop a few hundred on some 10gb ethernet cards.

I do a nightly back-up of several machines, I'm paranoid about my data.

Any help is appreciated.
