I am debating on upgrading my current build to get a better gaming experience. My current build is decent but I think it could be better with a few changes. I'm looking to play games at 1920 x 1080 and atleast 60+fps on high or ultra for recently released games and games coming up in the near future. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Here's my build:

cpu: amd athlon x4 760k
mobo- gigabyte F2A55M-HD2
gpu- MSI r9 270 OC
psu- thermal intake 650w bronze
case- antec mid tower case
ram - 8gb corsair vengeance LB

Do you only have 2 fans and 1 is a CPU fan?

But still...I think your system is up to date and SSD would be great. It makes games load a little faster but the real benefit is all apps snap to life in an instant.

Overclocking...your CPU cooler is good, but your mobo is a really low end one. So I wouldn't expect much of an overclock.
Most things must be pretty new. I'd suggest getting a SSD. The prices have fallen so much that is is easy to get a good 120GB SSD for not too much more than a 1TB HDD. Other than that, are you overclocking the 760k? You could buy a Cooler Master Evo and add a slight overclock.

I have tried to overclocking but ran into heating issues. Seems like any overclocking I do makes my computer unstable. I am using Zalman CNPS10X Optima cooler but when running Prime95 my cpu temp is around 80c. Would getting an ssd improve my gaming experience though? I know it would just make loading m OS faster but would it help with gaming?

It will not help in boosting gaming performance but would load games faster. SSD is not worth the money right now according to me.

It can help with massive games that are dozens of GB like Battlefield that require a lot of texture loading in terms of loading times, but otherwise it wouldn't really help gaming at all. HDDs are more than good enough for most games. For all games, actually, they are decent.

I want to say around 200-300. I was thinking of replacing my cpu to the fx 6300 and sabertooth 990fx but i'm not sure if I would notice a big difference.

I am afraid there is not much you can do without changing Motherboard. Changing CPU to 10-6800k makes no sense at all. Changing to SSD (which you will keep for following built) does makes sense to me though. Changing cooler (why is there ALWAYS someone on those forums who recommends the EVO cooler by Coolermaster I really wonder???) will not help you much. Are you sure your Zalman (which is a good cooler) runs at its normal speed? Because you should be able to OC that processor...

Its true you can't really do much to upgrade your CPU without changing motherboards but something is up with your cooler either the fan is not spinning at the right speeds or it isn't mounted correctly to your CPU. You should have no issues overclocking that CPU with that cooler.

On a side note high amounts of dust (cigarettes, cat/dog hair, etc), a hot room, or bad airflow in your case could also impede your ability to OC your system.

Right, that's exactly what I thought about my cooler but i've been having issues with it. I have cleaned/remounted my fan/cpu
about 3 times now but am still getting high temps. I know my cooler is mounted correctly. How would I check to see if my fan is not spinning at the right speeds?
