I've probably answered my own question, but want to verify I'm on the right track before spending money and finding out I'm wrong!

I've been running this computer for a year and a half or so with no problems. Lately my computer has been shutting down on its own (not restarting). I thought it was random, but realized that it's happening when the computer is "working (i.e. son playing minecraft or when I'm converting a video).

I downloaded speccy. CPU is currently running around 20 degrees celsius. When I began converting a video again, the CPU temp steadily increased to around 70 degrees ceslsius before I shut the program down. The temp immediately began dropping.

I have an AMD FX-4100 with the manufacturers fan that came along with the CPU. Do I need to buy a new fan for it? Which ones do you recommend when I'm on a budget?

Thanks!!!!!!!

Hi drob70
70 degrees is starting to get a bit hot
i would replace the stock cooler with an aftermarket cooler such as the coolermaster hyper 212 evo
choosing a better cpu cooler will depend on weather it will fit in your case
what is your case ?

Yes, I'm using the stock cooler. The temp was still increasing when I stopped the program. I just got nervous when the temp hit 70c. I believe it has been increasing until the cpu shuts down to protect itself.
