Everything resets on PC start-up???

Ok so basically yesterday when I started up my computer it seemed to change, I had about half as many Icons on the desktop homepage than I normally do, and all my settings had seemingly reset. For example I went onto Chrome and all my bookmarks had gone, all my search history, my ad-ons, the cookies were all gone for all the websites I normally go on.

I thought this was a one off glitch so I tried to find most of my bookmarks, install my ad-ons etc. again, but today I've booted the pc up again and its done exactly the same thing. It also resets all my in game settings for other applications such as games, although my progress on them still seems to be saved somehow.

Any response would be appreciated I can't seem to find anyone else who has had this problem on FAQ's and forums.

Run a virus scan

Do a DiskCheck

Do a System Restore if that hasn't helped

Yes do a system restore

Control Panel
System and Security
Back Up and Restore
down at the bottom middle "recover system settings or your computer"
open system restore

hope that helps
