Hi,

HWINFO64 shows:

CPU [0] AMD FX-8350
CPU 0 (18C)
CPU 0 Package (18C)

ITE IT8721F
CPU 37C
Motherboard (33C)

OpenHardwareMonitor shows:

Temperature 1 and Temperature 2 as matching CPU/Motherboard temps in HWINFO.
It shows 'Core 1-8' as matching the CPU 0/CPU 0 Package readings in HWINFO.

I think I'm explaining this to myself as I write but I just wanted clarification that, essentially, I can trust the CPU Core 1 - 8 numbers in Open Hardware Monitor.

I have a fairly 'extreme' speedfan profile set up which essentially keeps my rig silent until the package hits 50C and want to make sure this is ok. I assume, if I'm correct about the readings, that if the package is at 50C the cores are going to be 10C or so cooler. Is that right? I'd base it off the cores in Speedfan but I don't see that readout reported to it.

One last thing, does anyone know what my 'Temp3' reported at -128C might be in Speedfan?

Thanks,

The temp3 is just SpeedFan trying to read a sensor that doesn't exist.

Thanks very much for the info. Does this effectively mean I can't use the numbers in Speedfan to create a fan profile? I see no correlation between Speedfan's reported number and those in Overdrive.

You can use SpeedFan, but it won't be very accurate.

I *think* I have my readouts mislabeled in Speedfan. The one I have labeled as 'Board' is, under a Prime95 test, at 34C. AMD Overdrive reports a thermal margin of 31.5 which is close to the max temp of the 8350 cores (62C?).

Not sure about my other reading (that I have labeled as CPU). It's at 52C under load. TMPIN1 in Overdrive shows a margin of 59.1C.

The one labeled as CPU is probably the socket temp, but it's not accurate under load.

Yeah, basically there's still no correlation. Just tested it and my 'board' temp doesn't move even if I switch off all fans. CPU will hit 61C after a few minutes with no pump/fan but still shows 18C margin in Overdrive.

Oh well, I'll keep fighting and just trust Overdrive and set up my Speedfan profile to try and match its readings (ie if Overdrives says I'm at 60C and Speedfan says 80C I'll set Speedfan to profile to 80C).

Thanks for the help.

Yeah, the readings can be very different from each other (I know mine are). Good to know that I helped, even if only by a little :)
