Does V-sync reduce GPU ( and CPU ) temperatures?

Just wondering. ( Imagine using V-sync on a 60Hz screen while the game averages at 90 fps without )

I also know that some games have options like "triple buffering V-sync", so that makes me wonder if V-sync is actually just limiting the graphical output, or wether it has to work to actually achieve this stable framerate.

 
Solution
The triple buffer part is to reduce issues when/if the frame rate drops under your refresh rate.

So if you have Vysnc on, the video card will ensure that every frame syncs with the monitors draw cycle. Now if you are running 60HZ and the game can only pull of 50fps the card will drop to 30fps to keep the frames alined to the monitors refresh rate.

Triple buffering solves this issue, but can increase input lag and use more video memory.

As far as saying vsync reduces performance. That not 100% accurate, but it can increase input delay thus you will have to determine what bugs you more. input delay or the tearing effect of not using vsync. This can vary from game to game. Some games you may be willing to put up with page tearing for...

The short answer is yes. if you are playing in a 60hz monitor and your GPU is producing 90 fps, your monitor is only displaying 60 of those 90 frames. When vsync is on your GPU will only produce 60 fps reducing the power draw of your GPU, less power = less heat. But if you turn on vsync you will increase your input lag (only really matters for twitch type shooters)

With newer Nvidia card you can use adaptive vsync that will tun vsync on and off depending on your frame rate, but be warned it can be somewhat noticeable if you are on the edge of your refresh rate with vsync switching on and off all the time.
