Hello everyone,

Essentially I'm at my wit's end; I cannot seem to figure this one out.

I just got a Samsung U28D590D and hooked it up to my system, which has two Sapphire r9 290x GPUs.

When I had problems, I immediately thought it could've been CrossFire causing the problem, but everything was the same on both cards individually as well..

When I plug the monitor in through DP 1.2, I get TONS of flickering and cutting in and out from the monitor when trying to use 4k res at 60Hz. When I take that down to 2560x1440, the issue goes away.

When I plug the monitor in through HDMI 1.4, it works at 4k, but only at 30Hz.

When I use both DP and HDMI to try and make an EyeFinity setup using two 1920x2160 displays, it works, but causes a major tearing issue down the center of the screen.

I've tried the Catalyst driver versions 14.4, 14.6 beta, and 13.12, all the same exact issue.

Any ideas on what to try next? My idea was to try a DP 1.2 to HDMI 1.4 adapter and try the EyeFinity using both DP connections on the two cards (since AMD says DP is better for EyeFinity)

I'm just wanting a way to get my monitor running at full 4k resolution, at 60Hz, without problems.

Thanks!

I am getting the exact same issue on the AOC U2868PQU, it seems like AMD doesnt correctly support DP1.2, as Nvidia cards dont seem to be experiencing the same issues, I wonder if i can send my R9 290s back as false advertising on that?

There is some issues with the cable supplied by Samsung , it does not have the security latch that this cable is supposed to have , it has the sticker that says to secure said latch but the cable is "latchless" , i found that securing the cable made my problem disappear and i have a sapphire 290x and had that same problem .
i ordered a new cable with latches that is supposed to arrive any day now ( Ebay )

This at least for me was the solution .

Hi kapuckii,

I had the same problem, and I think its AMD DP and driver issue.
May I suggest a different cable..as I had to use a different cable but still the problem persist.
By the way I am using a miniDP to DP cable from monoprice...they aslo have the dp to dp cable.
The cable supplied with the ud590 should be okay I think, I had used it in conjunction with a miniDP to DP adapter, and problem remained.

I am praying for a driver solution from AMD.

Cheers and good luck.

i had the same issue, i replaced the Displayport Cord with this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0098HVXVQ/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and the issue is gone. :) I am running 290x crossfire with this monitor, no more flickering. I also tried 2 other displayport cables and they also had the problem some worse than others but this cable did fix my flickering issue.

I had same issue with this monitor I have ASUS 7950 x1 pcs. Win 8.1 I solved the flikering problem by installing monitor driver and also "easy setting box" software..

start the "easy setting box" right click on icon ( should be at right bottom side )
choose - put check mark " expand the monitor" on software

it worked for me now no flickering.. I tried it on 08 JULY 2014.

Hello Kapukii (everyone),

We just released our latest Catalyst driver (14.7 Release Candidate) yesterday. Please give it a try ( http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/id-2214906/amd-catalyst-windows.html) and let me know if it does the trick for you. If not, post here and use the Issue Reporting form as well.

Hello,
We just released the fix for the flickering issue found with the AOC U2868PQU panel. It's included in the Catalyst 14.7 RC Driver for Windows OS, which was released yesterday (July 10, 2014). Give it a try: http://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-articles/Pages/latest-catalyst-windows-beta.aspx

I also have the 290x + Samsung U28D90 Screen combo and the 14.7 beta driver did not solve the problem for me at 4k, works great at 2560X1440 flashes like crazy at 4k with the supplied DP cable.

Same issue. Just got the new Samsung U28D590D. Running R9 290x. Flickers at time on 4k res. A few times, I unplugged it and it worked for a bit then does it again.
Is there something special about this cable or it's the same spec as the Samsung cable that is provided?

It has security latches that really keep the cable in place, that's the only difference I could see.
It is also stated on the box that it supports 4k res, and up to 5.4 Gbps per lane throughput, and DP1.2 compatible.

Hope this helps.

Hi guys, I have the same problem. 4k resolution flickers as hell with my sapphire r9 290 and samsung 4k monitor.
cable is fine. I checked it with my old AMD Asus Radeon 7870 2GB. Worked perfectly until I upgraded.

Here are some details:

Graphics Card
Sapphire Radeon R9 290 4Gb Gddr5

AMD Catalyst Driver Version, and Driver History
14.7 beta, pretty much used every prior beta/release driver

Operating System
Win 8.1 64bit all SP+uppdates

Issue Details

Flickering when running 4k res with 60hz(unuseble) trough display port. Flickering means: The screens goes black for 1-2 sec, then back to normal. Sometime it does it every minute, sometimes every half an hour. And it doesn't matter if I'm idle in Windows or on full throttle in games.

No flickering when 30hz or lower resolutions. Its not the display nor the cable. I checked with an AMD Radeon 7870 2GB, and it worked perfectly.
