Hi all,

I currently have 5 x 3TB Red WD HDD's on my NAS that I used to store movies and tv shows. I'm using some old 500gig HDD just to run the OS. However I've hit capacity on my motherboard in terms of SATA ports. I'm using a p5q se mobo from years ago. What I need is something very facilitating. I want to run maybe 12-16 HDD's so I can incorporate some redundancy into my RAID array as well as adding more space. The problem here is the motherboard. I can't find a motherboard that's going to facilitate my requirements. I'm not sure I want to run a HP blade server or something just yet due to price. However, I do need this setup soon. Please advise

Use the HW raid controller like this:
http://www.amazon.com/multiplier-hardware-RAID0-CLONE-Controller/dp/B004JPUZWU
Each of your existing SATA port can see a volume as BIG as:
- 24TB (5x 6TB) or
- 16TB (5x 4TB) or
- 12TB (5x 3TB)
With your MB there are 6x SATA portsm assume you are using all 3TB HDD...
You can have a NAS with 60TB usable space with redundant

Nice thing about this is, you can expand your storage need as internal or external

I dont plan to backup any of it. It's just TV shows and movies. I can download 10 TB in about 10 days. As long as i have the list of movies i've downloaded then I know what to download again. Easy to write that to a notepad file just by doing a > dir from the command line :)
