Mainly for gaming , want to be set for a little while with this bad boy. Hoping the extra ram will speed up Civilization 5 late game.... any thoughts ?

Seems like a good set up. 16GB of RAM will most likely not be needed for gaming but it is always nice to have. This set up is pretty future proof but it has no ability to overclock, if you wanted to overclock you would need a Intel CPU with a "k" at the end of the model number. You would also need a Z97 motherboard. If ~$1700 is your budget then that is a good set up but if you wanted something even more future proof (but a bit more expensive) you might want to consider something overclockable but this not a necessity. An example would be:

If you wish to connect to the wireless network you may want to get a wireless network adapter card, but the motherboard does have an ethernet port so if you have a cable then it should be fine.

To reiterate I only recommend the changed setup for overclocking if you plan to overclock, it is not worth it otherwise, you will waste money.
