Quick question about upgrading my GPU

I am planning to get a SAPPHIRE DUAL-X R9 270X 2GB GDDR5, And I just want to know if my 2.1Ghz APU A6-3600 would work well with it. Or Is my cpu too slow that it will cause the GPU to work slowly? I am new with computer hardware. I can usually play games on high settings (1024x768 Resolution) with my computer without AntiAliasing but it still lags so i want to get a new gpu. And this card seems to be a good price to me. PS: I am not planning on playing on high resolutions. Max i usually play is at 1280x720

I have 6GB of Ram.
My computer model is HP Pavilion p7-1154. I already bought a new PSU.

I would get at least 8GB of RAM if you intend to game. You might get a little bottleneck with that CPU.

I suspect that you will get a nice boost with a discrete graphics card.
Past that, there is nothing much else you can do.
Your apu is good so long as you are using the integrated graphics. Past that, the cores are probably your limiting factor.

you should look at all the threads here at toms on doing this with your type of computer first after you read this ......


some models of store bought computers [dell.hp,acer,ect..] may come with a ''locked'' bios and may not allow you to change certain hardware as a video card.. this is done to protect them from undue warranty claims and refunds .this is not done to hurt you but to protect them. you really need to see if that upgrade has been proven to work in your model first before you invest money in it .. there are a lot of these threads here at toms to look at some models will allow upgrades and some dont.. and a lot of guys here say ya ya ya when is really no no no...it would be sad you spent $200 on a card that wount post after you installed it as most find out. then get told its your psu and you spend more and end up right back where you are now, but its up to you good luck..


you got to know the the boards in these computers are not like the ones we use to do custom builds witch are open to upgrading with in the boards compatibly . the bios is custom made for there design and just for the parts they authorize to be used on there computers

Okay, Well where could I find information about whether my Motherboard will accept upgrades. I been looking at different forums and websites about my PC but mostly I just find people asking what GPU they should upgrade to. None of the forums I have gone to have someone saying that my computer my not accept upgrades. Can you help me find information as to whether my motherboard is locked i cant seem to find anything.
