Hey guys, I bought a GTX 780ti and I'm getting disappointing FPS.

My specs are:
GTX 780ti
i5 2550k 4.0GHz
8GB DDR3 RAM
1920 x 1080
Windows 8.1

I recently discovered my 750w PSU was actually considered to be a very bad model, with people saying I'm likely not getting as much wattage as I should be.

I was wondering if upgrading my power supply would help to increase the frame-rate? I've had my current PSU for several years, now.

Many thanks in advance.

What are you getting poor fps in? I doubt your Power supply is the reason behind you getting poor FPS. 750w plenty more than you would need, and even if it was a poor unit, you would still be able to pull the less than 550w you would need for your build.

Battlefield 4, there's a video on YouTube of this guy playing (low settings) and he's pulling 150-200fps on worse hardware than mine.

Same settings, I'm lucky to squeeze 90.

Something must be wrong. I've had my CPU, PSU and Motherboard for several years now. Would any of them be worth replacing?

Depends on how crappy the psu is, if it is really cheap it could easily only be able to handle 450-500 watts.

By poor fps, what is the number?
Does the computer as a whole run slower then it should, or it just playing demading games?

Check my comment above, I imagine I posted as you were writing yours. Just when playing demanding games.

At 1080p with a 780ti + i5 2550k you should be getting very playable fps in pretty much all games - that's even without overclocking the CPU...something you might consider if you haven't already.

What does Google research say about the 780ti + 2500/2550? - there must be a fair bit of data there

Battlefield 4, Arma 3, DayZ, I'm actually getting similar, if not slightly less than my old AMD 7950.

Arma/Dayz - 30+
Battlefield 4 - Only drops below 60 on high settings or higher. But still not good in comparison to other people running lesser hardware.

Battlefield 4 is mainly CPU bound, so if anything is lowering your ability to play it, i'd imagine it would have to be the 2550k. The 2550k might not be able to fully utilize the 780ti's features.

I don't like that there is this idea that you can just throw in a great GPU and all games will magically run better. However, your setup should be killing Battlefield 4 unless you're playing at some ridiculously high resolution. Is your resolution scale over 100%? If it is, then you simply do not have the vram to run it.

So what is the exactly is your psu that makes you think your PSU is the problem?

Dark Souls 2 crashes, discovered due to the PSU. Many people are reporting the same problems and the solution was to replace the PSU.

My PSU is 750 and only worth £19.99, that is very uncommon which leads myself (and other people on this forum when I've asked before) to believe it's in need of upgrading.

So what is it?

It's a possibility that it can be the reason for the lack of improvement, but what exactly is your PSU?

I would change it the psu, but i don't think it would give you a boost in frames though.

Would an i7 4770k and a new motherboard help improve performance?

At best maybe a few frames. I'd imagine the change would be minimal.

i7 4770k won't help in gaming at all
It all depends of which motherboard you're getting and which one you currently have .
All I can suggest is to upgrade your current power supply as you say it's several years old , but it could help us determine if you have to change it or not by telling us the make/model

Well, for starters, unless I'm missing something, that PSU you linked that you have doesn't even have the proper cables to support a high end aftermarket GPU. It likely only supports a GPU that doesn't require a PCI-E power connector, or one that uses a single 6 pin connector. The 780 Ti (correct me if I'm wrong) requires at least two 6+2 pin connectors. You're likely not getting adequate power to your GPU.

Sorry for my ignorance , didn't see the link you've posted .
The power supply is the problem , and you should consider buying a new one , and like the guy above me said you need two 6+2 pin connectors for a 780 Ti
I suggest you either this power supply , either this one or this one
All are quality power supplies and will definetly make a change , and if I were you I'd soon replace that power supply because many people say that the one you currently have blows up after a few weeks/months

That psu will be more than enough.

Great choice of power supply , that is a high quality one ! But it might be a bit loud , unfortunately .
You should see performance improvement :)

Also, will the correct wires come with that power supply?

Sorry for the double post.

They both are compatible but an i7 will not do any improvement in terms of gaming performance
Will you do video editing ?

Yes the correct wires will come with that psu
I'd personally wait for x99 motherboards and intel's new cpu that support that socket
If you're gonna do video editing get 16gb of ram
